and the mock call.

Thirty minutes with an AI team lead: your availability, a difficult customer, a busy shift, then a mock call where it plays the customer. One note, then you run the call again. For call centers, support lines, help desks and phone teams.

THE INTERVIEW, MINUTE BY MINUTE

What happens in the 30 minutes

  1. 0 to 2 min

    Hello and the role

First names, the role and its shifts, and what the talk covers.

  2. 2 to 4 min

    Your availability

The days and hours you can work, weekends and holidays, your setup at home and when you can start.

  3. 4 to 6 min

    Why this work

One reason that is yours, in a few sentences.

  4. 6 to 9 min

    A difficult customer

One real time, what you did, and what the customer got. Under 90 seconds.

  5. 9 to 12 min

    A busy shift

Calls stacking up or several things at once: what you did first, and why.

  6. 12 to 15 min

    Working with others

A time you disagreed with a coworker or a lead, and what you changed after it.

  7. 15 to 26 min

    The mock call

Thirty seconds of setup, then the team lead plays an upset customer for about four minutes. One note, then you take the same call again.

  8. 26 to 30 min

    Your questions

Two minutes for yours, then the next step. The team lead never gives the result in the interview.

WHAT YOU WILL BE ASKED

The questions you will hear

These come up in most call center and customer service interviews. Your team lead asks five of them, then runs one mock call picked for your role.

Questions

  1. What days and hours can you work? Can you work weekends and holidays?
  2. Why do you want to work here?
  3. Tell me about a time you helped a difficult customer.
  4. Tell me about a time it got really busy and you had several things to do at once.
  5. Tell me about a time you disagreed with a coworker or a manager.
  6. Tell me about a time a lead gave you feedback. What did you change?
  7. When could you start?
  8. What questions do you have for us?

The mock call

  1. An order is a day late, and the customer has already called once.
  2. A customer was charged twice and needs the money before rent is due.
  3. A guest arrives tonight and the hotel has no booking.
  4. A customer's card was declined at the checkout.
  5. A customer's internet is down and they work from home.

AFTER THE INTERVIEW

What your report covers

De-escalation

Whether you heard the customer out, answered the pushback and kept the call calm.

Fact-finding

Whether you asked what happened before you offered a fix.

Honesty about limits

Whether you said plainly what you can do, and promised nothing you cannot.

Tone and pace

Short, even sentences, letting the customer finish, and no long silence on the line.

Call control

A clear path through the call and a clear next step at the end.

Coachability

Whether the second run used the one note, side by side with the first.

Schedule reliability

Specific days and hours, weekends answered, and answers that match your application.

AN EXAMPLE

What the team lead would write down · an example

Availability: 'Weekdays eight to four, every other Saturday.' Works from home on a wired connection.

Customer: a missing refill, called the doctor’s office, the refill was ready within the hour.

Busy shift: twelve calls waiting, took the urgent ones first, called the rest back the same day.

Mock call, first run: offered a refund before asking what happened.

Mock call, second run: asked for the order first, offered the replacement, set the next step.

Readiness for the call center interview: Getting there, because the second run used the note.

Questions before you start

What is the mock call?

After the questions, the team lead tells you who you are and what you can offer, then plays an upset customer for about four minutes. It stops the call, gives you one note, and you take the same call again. Read how the mock call is scored.

Can I pause during the call?

Yes, with the pause button. Inside the call, what you say goes to the customer, so "give me a moment" is a line to them, as it would be on the job.

What if I do not know the answer to the customer?

Say what you can do, and say plainly what you cannot. A promise you cannot keep is the most common way to lose points in a mock call.

Is this the same as the store interview?

The first questions are the same, because call center rounds ask them too. The mock call is what this one adds. See the store interview.

What about the typing test?

Some employers add a typing test or a chat exercise. Those are not part of this practice. When you mention one, your report names it as your next step.

Does it tell me if I got the job?

No, just like a real interview. Your report has both runs of the call side by side, the note a team lead would write and how ready you are.

Checking your plan…

TAKE YOUR NEXT STEP

Take the mock call once before the real one.
